Origin and history

Hotel de Saint-Philip is an iconic building of the late eighteenth century, located in the city of Agen, New Aquitaine. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments, illustrates the refined civil architecture of this period, marked by classical influences and a concern for elegance.

The construction of this mansion is part of the 4th quarter of the 18th century, a time when Agen, then in Aquitaine, experienced a notable urban development. The private hotels of this period often reflect the social status of their owners, usually from the bourgeoisie or local aristocracy. Their role in the city often goes beyond the simple residential function, also serving as a place of reception and representation.

The Hotel de Saint-Philip was fully protected by a registration order dated 1 March 2005. This protection concerns the entire building, emphasizing its heritage importance. The precise address, 55 rue Richard-Coeur-de-Lion and 38 rue Voltaire, allows it to be located in the historic heart of Agen, a city marked by a rich medieval and modern past.
