Origin and history

Hotel de Somery is a private hotel built in the 7th arrondissement of Paris during the last quarter of the 18th century. Located at 115 rue de Grenelle, it embodies the aristocratic residential architecture of this period, marked by the Louis XVI style. Its inscription as a Historic Monument bears witness to its heritage value, particularly for its facade, roof and some preserved interiors.

The official protection of the building was carried out in two stages: the façade on street, the roof and the Louis XVI decoration of the small living room on the first floor were inscribed by order of 14 December 1955, while the staircase received a supplementary inscription on 27 October 1987. These measures reflect the importance attached to the preservation of the architectural and decorative elements characteristic of this era.

The historical context of its construction corresponds to a period of prosperity for the Parisian aristocracy, where private hotels multiplied in the central districts. These urban residences served both as places of social representation and as a setting for elites, illustrating the fascist and refinement of the decorative arts during the reign of Louis XVI. The Hotel de Sommery is thus part of this movement to enhance the civil architectural heritage of the end of the Ancien Régime.
