Origin and history
The town hall of Bourg, originally called Hotel de la Jurade, was subject to major repairs from June 1749. The work, which was awarded in that year, included the façade and a moat bridge arch, completed in March 1750. The carpentry was entrusted to artisan Jean Ollivier. This building then became the administrative seat of the city, also housing the municipal bell, recovered after the collapse of the church bell tower Saint-Giron.
In April 1766, a delegation from the Jurats asked the Duke of Richelieu for permission to sit in the council hall. The king's weapons and those of the Richelieu family were placed there, highlighting the link between the municipality and the royal power. The facade, of classic style, is distinguished by its bell tower with swollen panels, topped by a bell tower. The first floor features pilasters with capitals adorned with garlands and relief paintings, typical of 18th-century civil architecture.
Ranked a Historic Monument in 1973 for its facades and roofs, the building remains today the property of the commune. Its location on the Place de la Libération, in the heart of Bourg, makes it an urban landmark and a testimony of local administrative history. The protected elements, inscribed by ministerial decree, include the land register AB 181, reflecting its heritage importance.
