Origin and history
The Town Hall of Châtillon-en-Diois, built in the 17th century, originally belonged to Baron Largentière. Originally, it was adjacent to a city gate, reflecting its central role in urban organization. The clock tower, an emblematic element, was completed in 1725, marking a key milestone in the evolution of the building. The East façade preserves sill windows, testimonies of its ancient arrangement, while the main door, probably contemporary of the construction, gives access to a ramp staircase.
The facades of the hotel are decorated with a painted decoration simulating a red and yellow brick apparatus, with bandages decorated with rinceaux. This trompe l'oeil, typical of the time, also mimics the angle links and contours of the bays. Inside, only the ramp-on-rail staircase remains, accompanied by remains of murals. These decorative elements, partially preserved, illustrate the care taken to embellish public buildings under the Old Regime.
The building has been the subject of successive protections: the facades, roofs, and stairwell (with its decoration) were listed in the Historical Monuments in 1992, while the east and south facades, as well as the roof, were classified in 2008. These measures highlight the heritage value of the building, combining local history and civil architecture. The current address, 2 Rue des Rostangs, confirms its anchoring in the urban fabric of Châtillon-en-Diois, in the Drôme (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes).
