Origin and history

The Hôtel des Éperons, also known as Logis des Éperons, is a private hotel located at 2, rue des Éperons in Laval, in the department of Mayenne. Built in the 15th century, it underwent major changes in the 16th and 18th centuries. This building, with a living area of about 300 m2, illustrates the architectural evolution of urban homes over centuries. Its inscription in the title of historic monuments, effective since February 10, 1987, underscores its heritage importance, particularly for its walk on the ramparts offering a wide view of Laval.

The La Porte de Laval family, one of the most prominent families in the city, occupied this home during the reign of Henri IV. This place thus reflects the social and economic prestige of its occupants throughout the eras. The last family known to have resided there is the Malin family, although the details of their occupation remain little documented in available sources.

The Hôtel des Éperons is also distinguished by its integration into the urban landscape of Laval. The walk on the ramparts, accessible from the house, allows to embrace a wide panorama of the city, testifying to its role both residential and strategic. This monument thus embodies both local history and the adaptation of urban elites to the architectural and social transformations of their time.
