Hôtel des Monnaies (Case AN 296): Order of 12 November 1958
Origin and history
The Hotel des Monnaies de Cluny is an emblematic monument to the town of Cluny, in Saône-et-Loire, built in the 13th century. This building, now classified as a Historical Monument, bears witness to Cluny's economic and political importance at that time, thanks in particular to its role in the minting of money, an activity essential for trade and seigneurial power.
Ranked by ministerial decree on 12 November 1958, the Hotel des Monnaies is identified under the cadastral reference AN 296. Its location, at 6 rue d'Avril, is attested by the Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, although the accuracy of this location is considered a priori satisfactory (note 6/10). The monument is an integral part of the Burgundy heritage, in an area marked by the influence of abbeys and medieval structures.
Available sources, including the Monumentum platform, highlight its protected status but do not specify its current accessibility (visits, rental, accommodation). The lack of details on its contemporary use or possible restorations limits the knowledge of its present state, although its classification guarantees its preservation as a vestige of the Clunisian Middle Ages.
