Origin and history
Hotel Dugas de la Boissony is a mansion built in the 18th century in Saint-Chamond, in a context where the city flourished thanks to the ribbon industry. Originally, the plots were occupied by artisans and members of the Dugas family, enriched by this trade. After temporarily belonging to the hospices of the city, these lands were bought by Claude Dugas, who erected his home there.
The main entrance, marked by a wooden gate decorated with the arms of Claude Dugas, gives access to a vast courtyard surrounded by adjoining buildings: the concierge, the main façade of the hotel, and the garden gate. The latter houses an orangery, while a second cochère entrance leads to outbuildings (hangar with carriages, stables, cellars, washhouse) and a secondary entrance to the house. Inside, the original distribution and many decors were preserved.
The whole, including the hotel, the communes, the fence and the plot, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 31 October 2016. Its architecture and history reflect the social rise of a family linked to local industry, as well as the urban and residential practices of the time.
