Pierre de Ruppe - Capital of Toulouse Commander of the tower in 1527.

Origin and history

The Hotel de Toulouse, classified as a Historical Monument, presents a remarkable Gothic door decorated with two winged claws supporting a now extinct badge. The lintel, typical of the 15th century, has flamboyant arches imitating the carved woodwork of the period, while traditional cabbages are replaced by fantastic animals. These details illustrate the persistent influence of late Gothic style in the Toulouse architectural decoration, even at the threshold of the Renaissance.

At the heart of the court stands a pentagonal tower erected in 1527, attributed to the capitoul Pierre de Ruppe, a notable figure of the Toulouse administration. This tower, redesigned in the seventeenth century, is accompanied by a side turret, reflecting the stylistic and functional evolutions of the hotel over nearly three centuries. The building thus embodies the transitions between the Middle Ages and the modern era, marked by successive additions.

The protected elements since 1925 — the door lintel (the Treasury Gate) and the capitoul tower — highlight the heritage value of the building. The historic address, 1bis rue du Languedoc, is located in the city centre of Toulouse, a neighborhood marked by the medieval and reborn heritage. Geographical accuracy, although considered passable (note 5/10), makes it possible to identify this architectural gem among the private hotels of the pink city.
