Origin and history
The Hotel de Saint-Cloud is a historic monument located in the city of the same name, in Île-de-France. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, it embodies the aristocratic residential architecture of this period. Its facades, roofs, as well as its exterior gallery and garden with fountain and stairs, were inscribed by ministerial decree in 1967, attesting to their heritage value.
The location of the Hotel at 7-9 rue d'Orléans is documented in the Mérimée base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10). This type of private hotel reflects the way of life of elites under the Ancien Régime, where secondary residences near Paris served as places of holiday and social representation. The gardens, often carefully designed, illustrated the taste for structured green spaces, inspired by Italian and French models.
The protected elements of the monument, such as the gallery and the fountain, suggest a careful architectural design, typical of the hotels of that time. The lack of details about owners or architects in the available sources limits the knowledge of its specific history, but its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments underlines its importance in the local and regional heritage.
