Origin and history
The private hotel at 33bis rue du Cygne, in the Old Towers, is an emblematic monument of the city. Originally built in the 15th century, it preserves a west wooden facade with hurdles, typical of medieval architecture. Its walled door vantals, adorned with mouldings and a fake carved of volutes, testify to this ancient period.
In the 18th century, the hotel underwent major changes: its main façade and interior fittings were rebuilt in a classic style. The staircase, with a wrought iron ramp, and the facades on street and courtyard (including a balcony) were inscribed in the historic monuments by order of 8 July 1946. These elements illustrate the architectural evolution of the building throughout the centuries.
The building is distinguished by its combination of medieval structures and 18th-century decorative elements. The front door, with its carved details, and the wooden façade of the 15th century contrast with the later modifications. This heritage reflects the successive adaptations of a tourist mansion, typical of urban transformations between the Middle Ages and modern times.
