Origin and history

Hotel Jamet is a private hotel located in Saumur, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the region Pays de la Loire. Built in the 4th quarter of the 18th century, it embodies the refined civil architecture of this period, marked by the influence of the Lights and a pronounced taste for classical elegance. Its completion in 1780 was attributed to architect Louis Drapeau, whose name remains associated with this emblematic project of the city.

Ranked as a Historic Monument by order of 18 February 1975, the hotel is distinguished by protected elements such as its façade on the Mayaud wharf, as well as its interior staircase and wrought iron ramp, witness to the craftsmanship of the time. These architectural features reflect the social status of its sponsors, probably from the bourgeoisie or local aristocracy, for whom such a building symbolized power and prestige.

The official address of the Hotel Jamet, 32-33 quai Mayaud, places the monument in the heart of Saumur, a dynamic city thanks to its military role (cavalry school) and its wine-growing activity. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, accommodation), its ranking attests to its heritage value, preserved despite the hazards of centuries. The location, noted as fair (level 5/10), suggests a geographical identification to be refined for researchers or visitors.
