Origin and history

The Lambertz Hotel, located 2 rue Gallieni in La Rochelle, is a building rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century. It adopts the U-shaped plan characteristic of the major rock hotels of that time, with a body of houses between courtyard and garden. Part of the lateral wings, originally dedicated to stores, were separated from the main building. The house body includes a cylinder office and a wooded library, while the court was used for Jacob Lambertz's weather observations.

The Hotel Lambertz was registered as a historical monument by order of 3 July 2007. This protection covers the entire building, including its interior decorations, plate ground and fence walls. The monument illustrates the architectural evolution of La Rochelle in the 18th century, when the city modernized, especially in its western part.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its heritage importance. The official address recorded in the Mérimée base is 2 rue Gallieni, although approximate GPS coordinates sometimes indicate 21 rue Amelot. The department concerned is Charente-Maritime (17), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
