Origin and history

Hotel Lemulier de Bressey is a private hotel located at 18 rue Chabot-Charny, in the preserved area of Dijon. Its architecture combines 17th century elements and Gallo-Roman remains, especially visible on the facade of the library, inlaid with ancient regional fragments. This building illustrates the reuse of ancient materials in a more recent construction, typical of local architectural practices.

The hotel was built by integrating earlier buildings, including a house and a back wing dating from the late 16th or early 17th century. Traces of older buildings, such as thick walls and a vaulted cradle cellar, suggest an origin prior to the 16th century. In the 18th century, the main house body was enlarged, and an additional wing was added or redesigned in the 19th century. An aluminum window was built in the 20th century.

The history of the hotel is linked to noble families: Claudine Charlotte Lemulier de Bressey, married to Claude d'Agrain, then their descendant Augustine d'Agrain, who married Pierre de Vesvrotte in 1832. The monument temporarily housed the Tomb of Philippe Pot, now preserved at the Louvre Museum. Since 1971, its facades and roofs (except the 19th century building) have been classified as historical monuments.

The exact address of the hotel, 18 rue Chabot-Charny, is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 21231, corresponding to the municipality of Dijon in Côte-d'Or. The monument, although partially protected, does not have precise information about its accessibility to the public or its current uses (visits, rentals, etc.).
