Origin and history
The Hotel de Mirandol is a historic monument located at 7 rue des Consuls in Sarlat-la-Canéda, Dordogne (New Aquitaine). This building, classified by decree of 18 September 1946, is a typical example of Renaissance civil architecture. Its notable architectural elements include sill windows, a door decorated with a pediment supported by two round columns, and a shop with a curved opening. These features reflect the influence of Renaissance artistic styles in France, mixing elegance and functionality.
The construction of the Hotel de Mirandol took place between the 15th and 16th centuries, a period marked by an architectural and cultural renewal in Europe. In Sarlat-la-Canéda, a city known for its rich medieval and Renaissance heritage, this type of bourgeois house bears witness to the economic prosperity of the region, often linked to trade and local administration. The houses of that time served not only as a residence but also as a place of professional activity, as evidenced by the integrated shops.
Ranked a Historic Monument, the Hotel de Mirandol illustrates the importance attached to the preservation of the architectural heritage in France. Its classification in 1946 emphasizes its historical and aesthetic value, while allowing its protection against inappropriate modifications. Today, although information about its access to the public is limited, its facade and architectural details remain points of interest for Sarlat-la-Canéda visitors.
