Origin and history

The hotel Motte-Lagache is a private hotel built around 1880 in Roubaix, in the Northern Department. It represents one of the rare preserved examples of a hotel between courtyard and garden on the Boulevard du Général-de-Gaulle. This building, originally built for the Voreux family, is attributed to the architect Dupire. Its facade, organized on three levels, combines red bricks and white stone frames, reflecting the architectural elegance of the Romanian industrial bourgeoisie.

The interior of the hotel is distinguished by an entrance hall extended by a monumental stone staircase, serving several remarkable salons. Among them, the music salon decorated with antique-inspired painted woodwork, the green living room and the library preserve original decorations. These elements, as well as facades, roofs and the fence wall, were protected by an inscription as historical monuments on 12 August 1998.

Today, the Motte-Lagache hotel houses the headquarters of the C.P.L.E. in Roubaix, while at the same time testifying to the architectural heritage linked to the industrial development of the region. Its precise location, at 64 boulevard du Général-de-Gaulle, makes it a visible landmark in the urban landscape. The materials used, such as brick and stone, as well as the symmetry of its semicircular rear façade, underline its emblematic character.

The protection of this monument specifically covers the facades on courtyard and garden, the fence wall with its gate, and the musical lounge with its decor. These elements, combined with its history related to the Voreux family and the architect Dupire, make it a valuable testimony to the social and architectural history of Roubaix at the end of the 19th century.
