Origin and history

The Moyne-Blandin Hotel is distinguished in Beaune by its neo-classical facade, unique in the city with that of 35 rue de Lorraine. Its architecture is characterized by a ground floor, a first square floor and an attic floor in coronation, although the roof remains very visible. The ornamentation is limited to a coating imitating a continuous working of cut stone on the ground floor, reflecting a sober and rigorous aesthetic peculiar to neo-classicism.

The construction of this mansion began in 1780, when Jean and Louis Moyne, father and son, acquired part of the Breton bastion. Louis Moyne, entrepreneur and probably architect of the project, oversees the work. The building incorporates notable decorative elements, especially in the large living room on the first floor, decorated in a "return from Egypt" style, and in the anteroom. These decorations are attributed to a member of the Bonnet family, renowned carpenters and decorators in Beaune.

The Hotel Moyne-Blandin has been partially protected under the Historic Monuments since 1988. This protection concerns the hotel itself, its well, its staircase, as well as the interior decorations of the large living room and the antechamber. These elements bear witness to the influence of the architectural and decorative styles of the late eighteenth century, marked by a return to antiques and a search for elegant simplicity.
