The facades on street and courtyard, the roofs, the staircase with its ramp (Box AC 91): inscription by decree of 26 March 1965
Origin and history
The Hotel located at 21 rue du Bac, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, dates from the last quarter of the 17th century. This building, typical of the Parisian civil architecture of the time, reflects the classic style in vogue during the reign of Louis XIV. Its facades on street and courtyard, as well as its roofs, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 26 March 1965, highlighting their heritage value.
The location of this private hotel, in an area then growing aristocratic, suggests a residential use for an affluent family or an influential character of the court. At that time, the 7th arrondissement, close to the Palais des Tuileries et des Invalides, attracted elites wishing to reside near the royal power. Private hotels were then used as places of social representation and urban residence for the nobility.
The protected elements also include the staircase with its ramp, characteristic of the refined interiors of the time. These architectural details, often commissioned by renowned masters or artisans, testify to the taste for ornamentation and comfort in bourgeois or aristocratic homes. The partial protection of the monument in 1965 aims to preserve these traces of the Parisian heritage of the Grand Century.
