Origin and history

Hotel Ricard de Brégançon is an iconic 18th-century mansion located at 17 Thiers Street in Aix-en-Provence. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the city at that time, marked by the influence of local elites and bourgeois families.

The building was partially listed as historic monuments on 20 July 1972, particularly for its entrance hall and interior staircase. This protection highlights the heritage value of its architectural elements, typical of the Aixian private hotels.

Aix-en-Provence, in the 18th century, was a prosperous city, administrative and judicial center of Provence. Private hotels, like this one, reflected the social status of their owners and served as a framework for the social and cultural life of the aristocracy and the local bourgeoisie.
