Origin and history

The Ricard Hotel in Saint Albin, also known as the Ribbe Hotel, is an iconic mansion in Aix-en-Provence. Built during the 4th quarter of the 17th century, it illustrates the civil architecture of this period in the region. Its classification as historic monuments in 1991 reflects its heritage importance, including not only the building, but also its garden, fence walls and a backed fountain.

The hotel is located at 10 rue Mazarine, in the Mazarin district of Aix-en-Provence, an area known for its 17th and 18th century private hotels. This neighborhood, studied by Inès Castaldo in his book The Mazarin neighbourhood : To live noblely in Aix-en-Provence, reflects the aristocratic lifestyle of the time. Today, the hotel belongs to a private company and is visited by reservation for groups.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its status as a protected historical monument. The Merimée database and bibliographical references, such as Inès Castaldo's study, provide architectural and historical details. The hotel's official website (hotelderibbe.fr) offers practical information for visitors, confirming its opening to the public under conditions.
