Origin and history

Hotel Richer de la Jousserie is a private hotel built in the first half of the 17th century in Le Mans, in the Sarthe department. This monument is distinguished by its decorations of ceilings painted around 1630, preserved in the old rooms, which bear witness to the artistic refinement of the period. The building underwent major changes in the middle of the 18th century, then in the contemporary era, adapting its architecture to the tastes and needs of successive periods.

The hotel's ceilings, recognized for their heritage value, were entered as historical monuments by order of 11 July 2002. This protection applies specifically to all ceilings, identified under Cadastral reference CR 9. Although the hotel is not open to the public permanently, its garden is accessible at the annual Entre Cours et Jardins event, held every September.

Located at 2 rue de Vaux, Hotel Richer de la Jousserie illustrates the architectural and decorative evolution of private hotels in France, from the seventeenth century to the present day. Its history reflects both the fascists of the nobility or the local bourgeoisie of the Old Regime and the subsequent adaptations linked to social and urban change. The sources available, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its importance in the Mansai and Sarthian heritage.
