Origin and history
The Hotel Séguret, located in Rodez, is an emblematic 17th century monument. Its structure forms a L, supplemented by outbuildings in U, built in limestone, pink sandstone, wood panel and slate. The building, partially covered with crepi, preserves traces of an earlier medieval house, such as a wooden facade and a sandstone cross window. Its staircase, composed of three straight flights and surmounted by a wooden dome once painted, is a remarkable element classified as historical monuments since 1944.
The family of Séguret, one of Rodez's oldest, owned this hotel until 1919, when it became a private school, Sainte Agnes. In the early 1980s, the building was transformed into a presbytery. Major changes, such as adding a floor and walling some windows, date from this period. The outbuildings, including barn, barn and garden, have existed since the 17th century and have been converted into housing units, while remaining property of the diocesan association of Rodez.
The hotel retains notable architectural elements, such as a French painted ceiling, an old fireplace hood, and ground floor arcades supported by Corinthian capital pillars. The stairwell, with its dome and lantern decorated with angelel paintings and plant motifs, bears witness to the refinement of the period. Archival sources confirm that the ground right-of-way has not evolved since its construction, although renovations have altered some original details, such as the 19th century frame.
