Origin and history
Hotel Thoron de la Robine is a private hotel located in Digne-les-Bains, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the second half of the 16th century, it illustrates the civil architecture of the Renaissance in this region of south-eastern France. Its location, in the heart of the city, reflects the importance of local bourgeois families at that time.
The building has been classified as historical monuments since 1982, especially for its staircase and stucco decoration, as well as its baluster ramp. These protected elements reflect the artistic refinement of the period. Today, the hotel remains a private home and is not open to the public, thus preserving its historic character.
The precise location of the hotel, 3 Place de l'Évêché, confirms its anchoring in the historic center of Digne-les-Bains. This type of monument, typical of the provincial elite's urban residences, played a major social and economic role in local life, serving both as a place of representation and power for the region's influential families.
