Origin and history
The Hotel Veillet-Dufrêche is a mansion built in the 18th century in Moncontour, in the Côtes-d'Armor department. It was built at the request of Jean-Baptiste Veillet-Dufrêche, a merchant who ran a large canvas sales counter. Its architecture, with its high chimneys, evokes the malouinières, residences of rich shipowners and traders of the region.
The facades and roofs of the hotel were listed as historical monuments on 29 April 1969. Inside, the rooms are decorated with woodwork made by local cabinetmakers during construction. These decorative elements reflect the opulence of the region in the eighteenth century, marked by the flourishing trade of canvases.
The exact address of the hotel is located rue du Bourg-Neuf and 12 rue Veillet-Dufrêche, in the historic centre of Moncontour. Although the sources mention its inscription as a historical monument, no information is available on its current accessibility to the public or its possible tourist functions (visits, rental, accommodation).
