Origin and history

The Hotel Ventadour, located in Ussel in the Corrèze department, is an iconic Renaissance building. This monument, whose facades and roofs are protected by a decree of 28 June 1932, bears witness to the refined architecture of this period. Its designation as Historic Monuments underscores its heritage importance in the New Aquitaine region.

In Ussel, as in many cities in the Limousin region, Renaissance mansions reflected the prestige of local bourgeois or aristocratic families. These buildings often served as urban residences, while embodying the artistic and social evolutions of their time. Their presence also marked the economic and cultural development of cities, where trade and architectural influences were mixed.
