Origin and history
The house at 12 rue Bragous in Bazas is a typical 15th and 16th century urban dwelling. It is distinguished by its vaulted rooms and fireplaces, one of which preserves an 18th century painted decor. This building, which was listed as a historic monument in 1997, today represents only the street part of a larger residence, partially demolished after the First World War.
Built at the hinge of the 15th and 16th centuries, this building illustrates the civil architecture of the late medieval period in Gironde. It is part of the dense urban fabric of Bazas, between the Cathedral Square and the course of Marshal Joffre. Its registration in 1997 covers the entire structure, highlighting its heritage value.
The house bears witness to an ancient urban occupation, with a narrow and deep plot, characteristic of medieval cities. Although the rear building body has disappeared, the preserved facade offers a rare example of bourgeois habitat of this time in New Aquitaine.
