Facades and roofs: inscription by order of 12 October 1946
Origin and history
The house at 15 rue des Bijoutiers in Beaucaire is distinguished by its preserved medieval architecture, typical of the urban dwellings of the period. The building has a set of high facades flanked by two slightly protruding staircase turrets, each with low doors. These elements, combined with splint windows and solid wood shutters, reflect the defensive and functional style of the late Middle Ages civilian buildings.
In the centre of the façade, a large vaulted passage, topped by a stone balcony decorated with a wrought ironwork, gives access to the old market square. This passage, culminating under arcades, illustrates the integration of the building into the commercial life of Beaucaire, a strategic city located between Provence and Languedoc. The architectural details, such as the window supports, the headbands and a beam carved in volute at the corner of the streets of the Jewellery and Diderot, underline the care given to the construction.
Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 12 October 1946, this house bears witness to Beaucaire's historic importance, marked by its role as an economic and cultural crossroads. The facades and roofs, protected for their historical value, offer a rare example of medieval civil architecture preserved in the Occitanie region. However, the accuracy of its location remains poor (note 5/10), according to available data.
