Origin and history
The house located at 22 rue du Commerce in Landerneau is a representative example of 17th century domestic architecture in this Breton town. Built entirely of cut stone, its facade has a nearly symmetrical ordinance, although the ground floor has undergone subsequent modifications. Two original curved berries remain, reflecting the style of the era.
Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 29 May 1926, this house illustrates the civil heritage of Landerneau. Its location, between Rue du Commerce and the old Rue de la Rive (now Rue Romain-Desfossés), reflects the town's urban planning at a time when river and land trade was structuring its development. The accuracy of its location, however, remains limited, with an estimated reliability of 5/10.
Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, highlight its heritage interest without providing details about its occupants or its precise use in the 17th century. The building nevertheless embodies the constructive techniques and aesthetics of bourgeois or merchant houses of the period in Brittany, where the local stone was widely used.
