Origin and history

The house located at 44 rue d'Aube in Bar-sur-Aube is a 16th century civil building, typical of Renaissance architecture in the Champagne region. Its inscription as Monument Historique by decree of 14 October 1963 specifically protects its facade, carpentry, entrance door and corresponding roof slope, thus highlighting its heritage and aesthetic interest.

Bar-sur-Aube, located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region, was at that time a city marked by economic activity linked to trade and crafts. Bourgeois houses like this often reflected the prosperity of the owners, while serving as a framework for daily life and social exchanges. This type of building, with its preserved architectural elements, bears witness to the local know-how and urban evolution of the region.

The partial protection of the house (cadastre E 857) highlights significant architectural details, such as carpentry and the front door, which are stylistic markers of their time. Although the available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not specify its original use or its occupants, its inscription under the title of Historical Monuments makes it a key element of the built heritage of Bar-sur-Aube, accessible from the rue d'Aube, whose location is considered "passable" (note 5/10).
