Origin and history
Carrière House, also known as Garnier House or Guy Braud House, is an iconic building located in the medieval village of Peruges, in the department of Ain. Dating from the 15th century, this house illustrates the civil architecture of this period, with typical features of the urban buildings of the time. It has been listed as historic monuments since October 11, 1929, a recognition that underscores its historic importance and remarkable state of conservation.
Peruges, a preserved medieval village, was at the time an important place of passage and trade in the region. Houses like this often served as housing for local artisans, merchants or notables. Their stone construction and their robust structure reflected both the defensive needs and social aspirations of their owners. These buildings played a central role in community life, sometimes hosting economic activities or local meetings.
The building is now owned by the municipality of Peruges. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, guest rooms), its inscription in the heritage protects its facades and roofs, ensuring the transmission of this architectural testimony to future generations. The house is referenced in the base Mérimée under code 01290, corresponding to the municipality of Peruges in the Ain.
