Entrance door to the street of the court: classification by order of 6 March 1928

Origin and history

The house located at 53bis rue Sérurier in Laon is a civil building dating from the 4th quarter of the 15th century. It is distinguished by its entrance to the street, classified as Monument Historique by order of 6 March 1928. This ranking reflects its heritage importance, although the information available about its history remains limited.

At the end of the 15th century, Laon was a prosperous medieval city, integrated into the kingdom of France after centuries of feudal rivalry. The bourgeois houses of that time often reflected the wealth of local merchants or artisans. Their architecture, marked by late Gothic elements, was inserted into a dense urban fabric, dominated by the cathedral and ramparts.

These houses played a central role in the economic and social life of the city.
