Renaissance Window: inscription by decree of 5 April 1930
Origin and history
The house located at the corner of the Saint-Nicolas gate, in the municipality of Mornas, is a 16th century building. This monument is distinguished by a Renaissance-style window, classified as Historical Monuments by order of 5 April 1930. The exact address, according to the Merimée base, is the 3 Grand Rue, in the department of Vaucluse (84), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
In the 16th century, Mornas, like many localities in Provence, was marked by architecture combining medieval and Renaissance influences. The bourgeois or notable houses of that time often reflected the growing prosperity of cities, linked to trade, crafts or agriculture. The decorative elements, such as the open windows, showed the social status of the owners and the gradual adoption of new Italian architectural styles. This type of building played a central role in urban life, serving both as a place of residence, trade or social representation.
The protection of the Renaissance window in 1930 underscores the heritage importance of this architectural detail. This inscription was in response to a desire to preserve the material traces of periods of stylistic transition, characteristic of Provençal heritage. Today, although the practical information about his visit or current use is limited, this monument remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of construction techniques during the Renaissance.
