Origin and history
The house located at 17 Droit-Stoltz Street in Andlau (Bas-Rhin) is an emblematic 16th-century building erected in 1573 by Frédéric, the youngest son of Alexander d'Andlau. The date is engraved on the front door and the cochère door, where wooded weapons recall its aristocratic origin. A later inscription (1647) and architectural changes, such as the 18th century staircase, mark its evolution.
Classified as a historical monument in 1934, this house illustrates the Alsatian civil architecture of the Renaissance. The street door, dated 1573, is the item protected by the registration order. A statue of abbesse, added between the 19th and 20th centuries, adorns the cornice post, reflecting later aesthetic transformations.
The building, initially a mansion, is part of the local heritage of Bas-Rhin. Its history is linked to the family of Andlau, the noble Alsatian family, although the details of its original use remain partial. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be poor (level 5/10), depending on available sources.
