Origin and history
This house in Salers, Cantal, is a typical example of civil architecture from the 3rd quarter of the 17th century. It is distinguished by a straight lintel door, topped by a richly decorated circular pediment. This pediment, adorned with denticles, rests on two pilasters connected by capitals, while a flat embossed shield dominates the lintel. Two fine sticks extend this shield to the pilasters, embellished with hanging denticles, adding to the elegance of the ensemble.
In the centre of the tympanum, a second shield bears the 1657 vintage, surrounded by a thin circular cord. Two embossed figures, partially erased by time, frame this shield, testifying to a meticulous craftsmanship. The door, including its vantail, was classified as Historic Monument by order of 29 June 1951, highlighting its heritage value. Its style reflects the influence of classic models adapted to the rural architecture of the period.
The precise address, rue de la Martille in Salers, and the approximate GPS coordinates (5183 Avenue de Barrouze) allow to locate this monument, although the cartographic accuracy is considered poor (note 5/10). The house illustrates the local vernacular heritage, where functionality and decoration combine, characteristic of the bourgeois or artisanal houses of the region in the seventeenth century.
