Origin and history
The house, built in the 16th century in La Rochelle, is a typical example of Renaissance civil architecture. Located at 1 rue Pas-du-Minage and in the All-y-Fault impasse, it is distinguished by its characteristic facades of this period. The building was listed as historic monuments on December 2, 1924, after restoration work in 1924, which included the removal of its original porch and the conversion of its roof into a long-paned roof.
Originally, this house belonged to Pierre Bizet, lord of the Barrouère and peer of the city of La Rochelle, at the end of the sixteenth century. She remained in the Bizet de La Barrouère family, which bore the title of knights and lords of the Barronère until the 18th century. A door to the building, dated the same time, still bears witness to this period. The modifications of the 20th century, though significant, preserved the most prominent Renaissance elements, such as facades.
The inscription as a historic monument in 1924 protected the facades of the house, recognized for their heritage value. The work of that year, including the removal of the porch and the addition of an extension to the south, adapted the building to modern needs while maintaining its historic character. Today, the house illustrates both the architectural heritage of the Renaissance and the urban evolutions of the early twentieth century.
