Origin and history
This house located in Bourges, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, dates from the hinge of the 15th and 16th centuries. Built after the great fire of 1487 that ravaged the city, it illustrates the reconstruction of Bourges in the late Middle Ages. Its architecture combines a commercial ground floor, two floors of housing and a top, with a characteristic wood panel structure.
Originally, the ground floor was home to a shop opening on two streets, marked by an angle post with a column now damaged. The façade of the store was changed in the 19th century, while the high parts of the gable, made of wood with cross of Saint-André, were restored. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1928 for its facades and roofs, this house reflects the urban and commercial evolution of Bourges.
The precise address, 1 rue Bourbonnoux and 2 Place Gordaine, places the building in the historic heart of the city. Its state of conservation and its successive transformations make it a major architectural testimony, although its exact location is considered of poor accuracy (level 5/10). Legal protections specifically concern external elements, highlighting their heritage value.
