The façade and the roof (Box 1991 HY 221): inscription by decree of 6 March 1950
Origin and history
The house in Bourges, dating from the 16th century, is a remarkable historical monument with its architecture and spatial organization. The set includes a main building dedicated to reception apartments, preceded by a wooded courtyard. A winged building and remains of commons complete the structure, while terraced gardens, supported by buttressed walls, extend below. Some of these elements, such as foothills, may date from the end of the Middle Ages, although their precise attribution remains uncertain.
In the 17th century, a vaulted orangery was built under a gazebo terrace, while at the southern end of the large terrace remains the ruins of a chapel and other buildings of the same period. These additions reflect an architectural and landscape evolution over centuries. The façade and roof of the house were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 6 March 1950, highlighting their heritage value.
The exact address of this monument is 17 rue Bourbonnoux in Bourges, in the department of Cher (region Centre-Val de Loire). Although the GPS location is approximate, available sources, such as the Merimée base and Monumentum, confirm its historic location. The protected elements are currently limited to the façade and roof, according to the 1991 cadastre.
