Origin and history

This one-storey house, located at the top of Renan Street (formerly Grande rue) in Tréguier, illustrates Breton civil architecture from the late 15th century. Its wooden panel façade, inserted between stone walls, is distinguished by a corbellation supported by posts reinforced with curved consoles. These elements delimit three large bays and a side door, whose frames ground in cellars are decorated with discreet accolades. The frame is countervented by crosses of St Andrew's, creating a band of small, clogged bays later to enlarge the windows.

Originally, the house probably belonged to a merchant, as evidenced by its location in a major commercial axis of the city. The original small bays, located on the floor, were modified from the end of the 16th century to penetrate larger openings, reflecting an evolution of needs or tastes. However, the domestic distribution of origin was not preserved, limiting the understanding of its past use.

The protection of the façade and roofs, inscribed by decree of 10 March 1964, underscores its heritage interest. Architectural details, such as sandstones and window supports, reveal an artisanal know-how characteristic of Breton urban Renaissance buildings. Today, its official address (12 Place Notre-Dame-de-Coatcolvezou) and its approximate location (14 Rue Ernest Renan) attest to its anchoring in the historical fabric of Tréguier.
