Origin and history
Champlitte House, listed as a Historic Monument, is an iconic building dating from the 3rd quarter of the 16th century. From a plan in L, it has a vaulted basement in cradle and a facade on Place des Halles, marked by a tower of staircase in screws, partly in corbellation. This building illustrates Renaissance civil architecture, with neat decorative elements, such as triple bays superimposed on two levels.
The south facade, particularly remarkable, bears witness to the prosperity of Champlitte in the 16th century. The first floor bay bears the inscription of the year 1573, confirming its construction period. The stairway tower and Renaissance ornaments make it a rare and well-preserved example of bourgeois habitation of this time in Franche-Comté. The monument was inscribed in full by order of 21 May 2004.
Located in Place des Halles, this house also reflects the urban organisation of Champlitte, where civilian buildings played a central role in economic and social life. Its architecture, combining functionality and aesthetics, suggests the importance of its former owners, probably related to commerce or local government. Today owned by the municipality, it remains a symbol of the local historical heritage.
