Origin and history
This house, located in Saint-Malo, is a typical example of the Servanna residences of the late seventeenth century. Built during the 4th quarter of the 17th century, it is distinguished by its typical architecture of the period, including two mansards and an attic. These architectural elements, as well as his history, earned him an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments by order of 23 May 1951.
The house is particularly known for its connection with Jeanne Jugan, founder of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor. From 1837-1838, she welcomed the first indigent elderly, laying the foundations for her charitable work. The mansards and the attic, where they settled, are now protected under the Historical Monuments.
Located at 2 rue Le-Pailleur in Saint-Malo, this house is now owned by an association. Although its exact address was sometimes confused with a nearby location (2 Rue Jean XXIII), the archives of the Mérimée base confirm its original location. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor, with a score of 5/10 depending on available sources.
