Origin and history
The house located at 58, 60, 62 rue du Commerce in Lons-le-Saunier is a building built in the 18th century. It is representative of the civil architecture of this period in the region of Franche-Comté, today integrated into Burgundy-Franche-Comté. His inscription as a Historic Monument in 1926, rectified in 1929, specifically concerns his facade, including the vantals of the doors, emphasizing his heritage and aesthetic interest.
Lons-le-Saunier, capital of the Jura department, was in the 18th century a dynamic city, marked by regional trade and trade. The bourgeois houses of that time often reflected the prosperity of the owners, linked to the emerging thermal activities or local trading. This type of building, with its neat facades, reflected the social status of its occupants and the growing importance of urban planning in the provincial cities.
The protection of the façade by ministerial decree in 1926 and its rectification in 1929 illustrate the early desire to preserve the French architectural heritage. These measurements were part of a broader safeguard movement of iconic buildings, even when their precise location, as noted here with a "passible" precision (5/10), was not yet fully documented. Today, this house remains an example of the civil constructions of its time, anchored in the urban landscape of Lons-le-Saunier.
