Origin and history

The house Lods is an architectural construction located in Belforêt-en-Perche, in the department of Orne in Normandy. Built in 1974, it embodies the innovative constructive principles of its time, applied by architect Marcel Lods for his personal use. This project synthesizes industrial and collective techniques, such as the use of prefabricated structures, enhanced insulation, and integrated heating, air conditioning and lighting systems.

The plan of the house is structured around a central patio, promoting fluid circulation and transparency between the interior spaces. The volumes, deliberately simple, avoid unnecessary partitioning. The large aluminium windows, combined with mobile technical boxes in the false ceilings, illustrate a functional and innovative approach, characteristic of Lods' work in collective housing.

Classified as a historic monument since 15 July 2003, Lods House reflects the evolution of 20th century architectural practices. It also reflects the adaptation of industrial methods to a domestic scale, while preserving a clean aesthetic. Its inscription underlines its heritage importance, both for its design and for the techniques it implements.

Located on the old town of Sérigny, the house is now a landmark for the study of modern architecture in France. The available GPS coordinates place the site at 79 Le Val Chaton, confirming its anchoring in the Norman landscape. The protected elements include the entire house, as defined in the cadastre (park ZL 29).
