Origin and history

This house in Blois, listed as a Historic Monument, has a composite architecture reflecting several epochs. The basement preserves remains of a 14th century cellar, marked by a characteristic pillar. In the 2nd quarter of the 16th century, the main building was built in the style of the First Renaissance, with a stair turret and a well, illustrating the influence of Italianist forms in the Loire Valley at this time.

In the middle of the 18th century, the facade on the street was completely taken over: the openings were equipped with stone covered balconies, topped by wrought iron balconies in the Louis XV style, whose harmonious curvature is typical of the art crafts of the period. The building then spread eastward, encroaching on a common passage with a nearby property. These ironwork elements, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 17 February 1928, now constitute the protected parts of the building.

The interior distribution was radically redesigned in the 2nd half of the 19th century, with the creation of a new vestibule and staircase, adapting the house to modern residential uses. These successive transformations bear witness to the evolution of lifestyles and architectural tastes, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era, in a city like Blois, marked by its royal and bourgeois heritage.
