Origin and history

The house at 10 rue du Pont in Pontivy is a remarkable example of civil architecture in the late 16th century. Its stone façade, characteristic of the Renaissance, is decorated with a central gate surmounted by an engraved pediment of the year 1577. This detail makes it possible to date precisely its construction in the last quarter of the sixteenth century. The ground windows, arranged symmetrically on both sides of the gate, as well as the two Renaissance windows on the roof, underline the influence of Italian architectural styles in Brittany at this time.

The building was partially protected under the Historic Monuments by an order of 20 March 1934, specifically covering its façade and roof. This registration reflects its heritage value, although its exact location was considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10 depending on the sources). The house, still located in the historic centre of Pontivy, illustrates the urban development of the city during the Renaissance, a period marked by an increase in stone constructions for bourgeois or merchant houses.

No information is available on its original use, its historical owners, or any subsequent changes. The sources are limited to its architectural description and its status as a listed monument. The Creative Commons license associated with the photographs of the monument (GOL69 credit) suggests recent documentation, but without further detail on its past history or function.
