Façade sur rue : inscription by order of 17 September 1943

Origin and history

The house of Riom, classified as Historical Monument, has a remarkable facade combining architectural elements of the 12th and 15th centuries. A rare example of Romanesque civil architecture preserved in the city is the 12th-century geminied bay, composed of two archatures with a full circle supported by a column committed to capital. This architectural detail reflects the historic importance of the building, although its original use remains unspecified in the available sources.

The frame of the entrance door, dated the 15th century, illustrates a stylistic evolution towards the late Gothic. The construction periods chosen concern mainly the façade and potentially the interior staircase. The official protection of the monument, which took place by decree on 17 September 1943, relates specifically to the façade on street, highlighting its exceptional heritage value.

Located at 6 rue de la Caisse-d Its conservation status and location make it a point of interest for the study of civilian habitat in Auvergne. However, the available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not mention any sponsors, precise use, or specific historical events related to this building.
