Origin and history
The house, known as the former Hotel Valette de Rochevend, is a historic monument located in Riom, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Dating from the 17th century, it is singularized by a richly decorated cochère door, marked by two cariatids and an arch in the middle of a hanger surmounted by a triangular pediment. The keystone of this arch has a cartridge that used to contain coats of arms, now erased. This architectural detail reflects the symbolic and aesthetic importance attached to the entrances of noble houses of the time.
The monumental door is embellished with a draped base, where two human busts back to back emerge, representing a man and a woman with veiled heads. These sculptures support the triangular pediment, adding an artistic and mysterious dimension to the ensemble. The building, partially protected since 1927 (inscription of the door), illustrates the fascination of private hotels in Riom, a city marked by its judicial and aristocratic past under the Old Regime.
The precise address, 36 rue du Commerce, and its Insee code (63300, Puy-de-Dôme) confirm its anchoring in the historic center of Riom. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its status as a Historic Monument makes it a key element of the local heritage. The location, noted as "passible" (5/10), suggests an approximate identification, possibly linked to the urban evolution of the city.
