Facade on street and corresponding roof slope: inscription by decree of 4 July 1959
Origin and history
The house at 200 rue Beauvoisine in Rouen is a 15th century civil building. This monument, whose street façade and corresponding roof slope have been listed as Historic Monuments since July 4, 1959, illustrates the medieval architectural heritage of the city. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory, and today it belongs to the commune of Rouen.
Rouen, the major city of Normandy, was in the 15th century a dynamic economic and cultural centre, marked by its river port and its role in trade. The houses of this time often reflected the prosperity of local merchants or artisans, with wooden or stone facades typical of Norman architecture. This type of building, though modest, was part of the city's daily life and urban fabric.
The registration of this house in 1959 underscores its heritage importance, although the available sources do not specify its original use or its possible historic owners. The Merimée database and Monumentum data indicate that it is now communal property, without any mention of an opening to the public or of a specific current function.
