Origin and history

This historic monument in Neufchâteau, in the Grand Est, consists of two distinct buildings: a house on street rebuilt at the end of the eighteenth century and a posterior building serving as commons. The entrance door, located in the first span, preserves remarkable elements such as a slit-pane, a wrought iron imposte and a bumper of the same material. These architectural details bear witness to the care given to the construction and aesthetics of the era.

The building of the communes, built in the late 17th or early 18th century, bears a date of 1768 on the lintel of its pedestrian door, although this inscription seems to have been originally 1708. The house, for its part, was rebuilt in the late eighteenth century, as evidenced by the decorations linked to the bays. These transformations reflect the evolution of architectural styles and functional needs over the centuries.

The street façade and the corresponding roof section were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 19 January 2000. This protection highlights the heritage importance of this building, which illustrates both the civil architecture of the late Old Regime and the successive adaptations of a building throughout the eras.
