Facades and roofs: inscription by order of 9 November 1926

Origin and history

The Houses located at numbers 10-12 of Place du Maréchal-Foch (formerly Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville) in Châlons-en-Champagne constitute a historical monument whose facades and roofs were protected by a registration order in 1926. Their exact location, although documented in the Merimée database, remains subject to poor accuracy according to the available assessments, with a score of 5 out of 10 for the reliability of the coordinates. These buildings are part of the city's architectural heritage, now integrated into the Grand Est region, after belonging to the former Champagne-Ardenne region.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Châlons-en-Champagne, then called Châlons-sur-Marne, was a city marked by dynamic urban activity, where civil constructions often reflected the social and economic developments of the time. Bourgeois houses or related buildings, such as those in the Place du Maréchal-Foch, played a central role in local life, sheltering shops, residences or institutions. Their preservation reflects the importance attached to this heritage in the collective memory, even if the available sources do not specify their original use or sponsor.
