Origin and history
The house located at 6 Place aux Pots in Uzel, in the commune of Uzel in Brittany, is a building dated 1788. It was probably commissioned by a linen merchant, reflecting the economic importance of this activity in the region at that time. The building consists of a square main body and an elongated back wing, characteristic of 18th-century houses of notables.
The house retained much of its original elements, including its interior woodwork and interior distribution, although its staircase was destroyed. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was enlarged in depth. In the 1990s, an additional wing closing the courtyard to the east was demolished, slightly changing its original appearance.
The house has been protected as a Historic Monument since 2006. The inscription covers the main house, the building body in return (except for a contemporary garage), the courtyard with its well, as well as the garden and its corner pavilion. These elements bear witness to the historic and historic importance of this site, linked to the economic and social history of Brittany at the end of the 18th century.
