Origin and history
The house in Uzès, dating from the 17th century, has a remarkable facade divided into three levels: ground floor, two floors and an attic. The entrance door, known as the "diamond door", is the only original element kept on the ground floor, the rest being transformed into a commercial space. The seven windows on the first floor, initially equipped with crumbs, are framed by ionic pilasters. They are based on a cornice decorated with models carved with floral motifs or human heads, while the pilasters support a Tuscan-style entablement. The windows of the second floor, more sober, partially preserve their crumbs and rest on Corinthian pilasters, surmounted by an ionic entanglement.
At the attic, seven circular egg-eyes pierce the facade, integrated into square chambranles. Access to the inner courtyard is via a vaulted corridor, and the four sides of this courtyard adopt a characteristic Louis XIII style. Among the preserved elements, the stairway door preserves a carved vantail typical of this time. The ensemble, including facades, roofs and stairways, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 6 December 1949, highlighting its heritage value.
The precise address of this monument, according to the Merimée base, is 12 rue de la République in Uzès (Gard), in the Occitanie region. Although the GPS location is approximate (accuracy note: 5/10), available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its protected heritage status.
